Michael W. Tunnicliffe

Born Sept. 29, 1922

Michael, surrounded by his family, passed peacefully on October 10, 2006. Michael was born in Long Ashton, Somerset, England, the eldest of eight children to the Reverend & Mrs. William John W. Tunnicliffe. After completing public school, Michael entered the British Royal Navy in June 1941 and served until the end of WWII. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant and commanded a MTB in the English Channel. After the war, while sailing to India, Mike met his future wife, Darthea. They were married in Mathurai, India on August 31, 1949. They migrated to the U.S. in 1952. Mike received his degree in business from Elon University N.C. In 1960, the family moved to Oregon City. Mike was active in the community, at one time he was elected President of the Clackamas Chamber of Commerce. He loved sports car racing and rallying, and was active in the Cascade Sports Car Club. Mike bought a business in Escondido, Calif. in 1975, and lived there until his retirement in 1988. He and Darthea returned to Medford to live near their two children and their families. Mike and Dee enjoyed taking cruises to different parts of the world. Darthea went to be with the Lord in February, 2005. Outgoing and charming, he made many friends wherever he went. Mike is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Zupan, of Medford; son, James, of the Dominican Republic; and his grandchildren, Chelsea, Devin, Rachele, Anthony and Nick. Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel in Medford on October 20th at 2:00 p.m.
