Marie Margaret Calhoun

Marie Margaret Calhoun, 85, died peacefully December 12, 2006, of cancer at her home in Medford, Oregon surrounded by her loving family.

Marie was born August 18, 1921 in Hattiville, Arkansas to John and Minnie Wiedower. She grew up on a farm and graduated high school in Vinita, Oklahoma. Marie and Van Calhoun were married in 1942 and three years later, they moved to Medford where they raised their family. Involvement with her four children's many school, sporting and social events, as well as those activities of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, occupied much of Marie's time. When not spending time on her hobbies of sewing, knitting, crafts, pinochle and gardening, Marie worked as a cafeteria aide at Hedrick Junior High School for 20 years and also volunteered at Providence Hospital. She especially valued the time she spent with lifelong friends met through her church and family.

Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years. She is survived by her children: Pat (and Frank) Carrubba of Healdsburg, Calif.; Jim (and Lynn) Calhoun of Gold Hill, Ore.; Terri (and Jon) Tregarthen of Citrus Heights, Calif.; Debbie (and Terry) Caster of Brookings, Ore., and by her ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

An 8:30 a.m. memorial mass will be held on Friday, December 15, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by a church reception. Interment will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park, 2100 Siskiyou Boulevard beginning at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Mary's School, 816 Black Oak Drive, Medford, Oregon 97504 to be used by both St. Mary's and Sacred Heart Catholic Schools.
