Harry Delemer Fairchild

Harry Delemer Fairchild passed away peacefully at his home on December 27th, 2006.

He was born July 28, 1918 in Yakima, Wash., to John Francis and Cleone Fairchild. Harry joined the Navy at age 17, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. Among his many medals, Harry received the Purple Heart while fighting with the marines in the South Pacific. During his naval career, he met and married his wife of 58 years, Violet Almeda Noftsier in 1948. They settled in San Diego and had three children. After retiring from 22 years with the Navy, Harry returned to school to obtain his bachelor's degree in education. They moved to Los Angeles where he taught for 15 years with the L.A. school district. Upon retirement, they moved first to Scott Bar, Calif., then to Oregon, settling in Medford in 1984.

He is preceded in death by his son, Harry D Fairchild II. He is survived by his wife, Violet; two daughters, Dixie Lee Fairchild-Hopkins of Gold Hill, Ore., and Alice Cleone Polendey of Eagle Point, Ore.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

At his request there will be no memorial service. In place of flowers, family has requested donation be made to either the Cancer or Diabetes Foundations.

He was a loving husband and doting father and grandfather. He will be missed greatly.
