Donald Harold Nimrod
Donald Harold Nimrod, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 2, 2007 while at his home with his daughters and son-in-law present.
Don was born February 13, 1924 in Wakefield, Nebr. to David Carl and Edna Sophia Nimrod where he lived with his sister Susie, who preceded him in death, until he entered the U.S. Navy in 1942. Don served in WWII aboard the USS San Juan as a gunners mate. In 1946, after WWII, Don traveled to Oregon to visit his mother who was living in Ashland. There he met Ruth Marie Beers and in 1950 they were married. They were married 54 years ceasing only with her death October 2006. They made their home in Ashland until 1982. During that time Don worked at the Ashland Daily Tidings for 25 years and then at Southern Oregon University until his retirement. Don was always an avid hunter and fisherman spending many evenings and weekends with Ruth out on the lakes, at the rivers and in the mountains of Southern Oregon. Don was also a skilled woodworker and cabinetry man. Don was active in the Elks Lodge of Ashland for many years and a member for over 50 years. He attended and was a member of the Jacksonville Presbyterian Church.
Don took his family on many wonderful camping vacations to Canada and weekend camping trips to the local lakes and the Oregon coast. He loved his wife, his daughters and his grandchildren.
After retirement he and Ruth spent winters in the Arizona and California deserts and summers at their home in Brookings, Ore. Later they moved to Jacksonville, Ore. where they lived for 8 years. Recently Don moved to his new home in Medford enjoying life in the country.
He is survived by three daughters, Jeri Sullivan of Medford, Donette West and her husband, Mike of Olympia, Wash., Diane Hofmann and her husband, Barry of Portland, Ore.; and five grandchildren, Andy Sullivan and his wife, Jennifer, Greg Sullivan, Matt Sullivan, Ryan West and his wife, Maya and Amy Cilento and her husband, Gene.
The family would like to thank the wonderful people who provided care for Don during his illness: Pat, Breeze, Judy and Melanie and the wonderful caring staff at Asante Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at the old Jacksonville Presbyterian Church Saturday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m. with John Braund, Hospice Chaplin, Erv Voogd of the Presbyterian Church and Cory Burkett of the Applegate Fellowship officiating.
