Nancy Hatch Milburn

Nancy Milburn, 86, of Medford, died February 13, 2007 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

The third of three children, Nancy was born in Freeport, Illinois on August 18, 1920 to Lester Grover and Mignon Westurn Hatch. She graduated from Hyde Park High School in Chicago in 1937 and attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. There she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma, met her future husband Edward Garland Milburn and left in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She worked for Swift and Company in Chicago until Ed's return from the war, and they were married on July 12, 1945.

Because of Ed's career with W.T. Grant chain store company, they raised their family in Binghamton, N.Y.; Bridgeton, N.J.; Levittown, N.Y.; Poestenkill, N.Y.; Fayetteville, N.Y.; Ridgewood, N.J.; Los Angeles, Calif; and West New York, N.J. After Ed's death in 1971, Nancy moved to River Vale, N.J.

Nancy enjoyed traveling to Europe, Africa, India and the Galapagos. She earned the nickname "Brave Nancy" for riding camels in Egypt and elephants in Nepal.

In 1999, Nancy made her final home at Anna Maria Creekside Retirement Community in Medford, Ore. She was an avid reader and worked daily on crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved her family and friends, and will be remembered for her inquisitive mind, sly sense of humor and consideration of others.

Survivors include son, Jeffrey Milburn, and grandson, Stephen Milburn of Colorado Springs, Co; and daughter, Susan Milburn of Talent, Ore.

Nancy was buried with her husband on February 23rd at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in Paramus, N.J. Beverly Dempsey of West Side Presbyterian Church officiated.
