Charles "Leonard" Hess
Charles "Leonard" Hess, 92, of Grants Pass, Ore. passed away on March 11, 2007 in Grants Pass.
A viewing will be Friday, March 16, 2007 from 3:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 17th, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel. Pastor David Jenkins of Parkdale, Ore. will be officiating.

Charles was born September 20, 1914 in Elwood, Kans. to Robert L., Jr. and Martha E. Hess. He lived in Medford for 16 years and in Grants Pass for the last three and a half years. He married Alice L. Hess on November 24, 1934 in St. Joseph, Mo. They were married for 72 years.
Charles was employed with Lockheed/Martin, building airplanes during WWII from 1940-1945. Then from 1945 to 1951 he worked with PG&E in the Placerville, Calif. area and at Aerojet General in Sacramento, Calif working on rocket engines for the Gemini and Apollo mission from 1951-1972. His hobbies included carpentry (building houses, etc.), and camping. He was a member of the Rogue Valley Bible Chapel and Gideons International.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a sister, Selma Morris of Roseville, Calif.; brother; Edwin Hess of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; and granddaughter, Melanie Hess. Survivors include sons, Kenneth Hess of Redding, Calif. and Steven Hess of Grants Pass, Ore.; daughters, Jean Anderson of Lincoln, Calif., Sharon Jenkins of Parkdale, Ore. and Cherl Van Dyke of Talent, Ore.; sister Roberta Gylling of Citrus Heights, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
