Barbara Smurzynski, 81, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on the evening of March 24, 2007 at home in Gold Hill, Ore.
Barbara was born on July 12, 1925 to Marvin and Arleta Yost in Chico, Calif. She attended high school in Stockton, Calif. In 1946, while roller skating, she met her devoted husband of 60 years, Chester Smurzynski. They were married on October 19, 1946 in Los Angeles. Their love for skating carried on through their whole marriage.
After starting their family in Chicago, Ill., they returned to Southern California where they raised their four children. Barbara was a devoted mother and wife. In 1972, they moved to Gold Hill, Ore. Barbara was active as a church deaconess for Rogue Valley Community Church and with the Rogue River River Community Center. She worked at Robinson's and Parker Woods; retiring from Griffith's clothing store.
Barbara was a very warm, fun loving person. She loved people and they loved her... she could make friends with anyone. She had a great talent for knitting, painting, and putting together puzzles.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Chester; her sister and brother-in-law, Paul and Marion Shirlock; daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Sandy McGeragle of Angels Camp, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Chester and Betty Smurzynski of Palo Cedro, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Elise Smurzynski of Shady Cove; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Judy Smurzynski of Central Point; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at the Community Bible Church in Central Point, Ore. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Providence Hospice, and to all neighbors and friends for their support and love.
