Dorothy Louise Buck

Dorothy Louise Buck, 87, of Medford, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Dorothy was born on February 29, 1920 in Calgary, Canada to Leslie and Ida May Darby. She moved to the states when she was nine years old and later became a U.S. citizen. She grew up in Glendale, Calif., graduating from Hoover High School, then attended John Brown University. She majored in art.

She married Irvine Ray "Curley" Alward, Jr. in 1941 and worked as a bookkeeper for the family auto repair and towing business. The couple later divorced.

Dorothy was very artistic and loved to sew and make crafts. She was very involved in square dancing and sewed matching outfits for she and her husband to wear to different dancing events.

She was very active in her community church and also loved the outdoors, especially golfing, fishing, and hiking.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Sauerwald of Eagle Point, Sally Sweem of Shady Cove, and Sharon Campbell of Medford; a son, Irvine R. Alward, III, of Rogue River; a brother, John Darby, and sister, Francis Welton, both of California; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Norman Buck; grandchildren, Mandy McFall and Charles White; and a sister, Marjory Evans.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 12:00 noon at the Rogue Valley Manor Sunset Room. A luncheon will follow.

She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
