Eugene "Gene" Leroy Namanny
Eugene "Gene" Leroy Namanny passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 of a heart attack on the 7th hole at the Centennial Golf Course in Phoenix, Oregon
Gene was born on November 11, 1944 in Lake City, Iowa to Herbert and Maxine Namanny as the second child of six. He was raised on a farm in Westside, Iowa and graduated from Glidden High School.
His first jobs included a milk route and work as a butcher. He moved with his young family, including his first wife Pam Moore, to Southern California where he worked in construction and was affiliated with the Meat Cutters' Union. In 1980 the family relocated to Ashland where he owned the Namanny's Triple T Market in downtown Ashland for several years. He also worked for Ray's, Kacy's and Buy Rite before starting his own lawn maintenance business.
Gene enjoyed acting in local theatre with Rogue Rascals, performing in several productions. He was involved in several golf organizations, most recently as the President of the Men's Club at Centennial Golf Course. He was infamous for his cross-handed grip and for his wry sense of humor.
On June 25, 1994 he married his soul mate and the love of his life, Linda Fremd Greene in Ashland, Oregon. They enjoyed working on their home and yard creating flower gardens and hosting several family barbeques and gatherings. Both recently retired and had begun traveling with a wonderful group of friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, Linda of Ashland. He is also survived by his son Tim Namanny, grandsons Matthew and Joshua of Central Point; son and daughter-in-law Terry and Dara Namanny, grandson Nathan and granddaughter Lindsey of Medford; and daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Mark Retter, grandsons Danner and Dillon of Medford.
His family also included other beloved children including daughter Lucy Cruz and grandson Sol of Ashland; son Luciano Cruz of San Diego; son and daughter-in-law Eric and Angela Greene, granddaughter Brittany and grandsons Tyler and Camryn of Ashland; son and daughter-in-law Aaron and Lisa Greene, granddaughter Mackenna of Ashland; daughter and son-in-law Danya and Orville Hector, grandson Devon of Ashland; and son Brian Greene and his girlfriend Kelly Sandberg of Medford. He is also survived by his mother, Maxine Namanny of Iowa; brother Larry and wife Linda Namanny of California; brother Jim and wife Bonita of Iowa; sister June and husband Byron Kuhlmann of Nebraska; brother Curtis and wife Cindy Namanny of Mississippi; nieces, nephews and countless friends. Preceding him in death were his brother, Randy and his father, Herbert.
