David L. Duty
Loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, David L. Duty passed away on April 3, 2007 in his home in Medford, Oregon as a result of congestive heart failure.
David was born in Sheppard, Virginia on February 13th, 1921 to David L. Duty and Nora S. Duty. David was one of eight children. David joined the Army in 1939, was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He also served as an advisor and local manager for the Oregon National Guard. David was a member of Ashland Elks Lodge #944, loved hunting, fishing, gardening, teaching his dog new tricks and spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling to Virginia to visit family.
David is survived by Betty, his wife of 64 years, a daughter, Mindy Duty Rutledge of Corvallis; a brother, Patrick Duty; grandchildren: Steve Swan, Jim Swan, Darin Rutledge, Aaron Rutledge, Lance Duty and Mindy Duty; great grandchildren: Jeff Rutledge, Emily Rutledge, Scotty Swan, Abby Rutledge, J.J. Rutledge, Alisa Duty and Kristina Duty. He also has a large extended family from Virginia, to which he had remained close.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sue Swan, son, David L. Duty and six of his siblings.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., in the First Presbyterian Church, Ashland, Oregon on Friday, April 13th. Funeral service will be followed by a committal service with military honors at Scenic Hills Memorial Park in Ashland.
