Don W. Berry
Don W. Berry, of Medford, Ore. was born and reared in Havre, Mont. June 12th, 1922. The third child of Ruth and Dee Berry.
He was an Eagle Scout and worked as an airway observer at the U.S. Weather Bureau. He graduated from Oregon State College with a B.S. degree in Entomology and later with an M.S. from the University of California in Davis, Calif. In 1943 he joined the Air Force and trained as a navigator. He served in Italy in the 15th Air Force, 455 bomb groupe, 742 squadron. After WWII he returned to Oregon then worked for a couple of agricultural chemical companies ( Food Machinery and American Cyanamid.) Don spent 27 years working as a Jackson County horticultural agent for Oregon State University. Retiring in 1981 as "Professor Emeritus." Then was involved as a partner in owning several pear and peach orchards in the Medford area; and then finally got involved with cattle ranching in Montana. While living in Oregon he served as President of the Medford Host Lions Club and was a member of Rogue Investments as well. He was both a deacon and elder in the 1st Presbyterian Church in Medford. He was also a member of the Agricultural Chemicals and Fertilizer Association, Epsiloa Sigma Phi and the Entomological Society of America. Don enjoyed playing the cornet in Medford Lions band, the Montana ranch, orcharding in the Rogue Valley and trailer traveling with his wife, Audrey, of 54 years.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey; daughter, Susan Zimmerman (Jerry) of North Dakota; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four nephews. He is preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
