William "Bill" Franklin Roberts
William "Bill" Franklin Roberts passed on April 2, 2007 after a recent heart attack. William was born in May, 1914 in Shoffner, Arkansas to Carrie Ann and William F. Roberts Sr.
His mother passed in 1920. His father became ill and was admitted to a hospital. He and his siblings were then admitted to Porter Leath Orphanage where he lived for four years. After discharge from the orphanage, he lived with his father for one year until his father passed. He then lived with relatives and worked in the cotton fields.
In the late 30's, he traveled to Southern California where he met Avalon Marie Roberts. When her family moved to Talent, he followed and married her in 1940.
He worked as a master carpenter. He helped build Camp White and built many homes in the Rogue Valley, specializing in cabinetry. Since 1965, he sub-contracted from Cascade Wood Products, and his last job was in 2006.
He loved fishing, gardening, and family. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include daughters, Judith Ricks of Medford, Betty Lanfear of Medford; son, William Brian Roberts of Talent; grandchildren, Mike Ricks, Marci Coey, Paige Holt, Calvin Lanfear, Jr.; great-granchildren James Coey and Landon Holt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Avalon Roberts, sisters, Beatrice Newbill, Lena Newbill and Ruby Dye and brothers, Aubrey Roberts and Mitchel Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at Talent Friends Church, 50 Talent Ave., Talent OR on April 13, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Fields officiating.
