Coleen Barr Johnson

Coleen Barr Johnson

Coleen Barr Johnson, my best friend since we were 8 years old, passed away on June 22, 2006 in Anacortes, Wash.

We spent the last — weeks laughing, crying, and playing "our card game "she won" our last game. We looked at Craters and discussed her schoolmates, old boy friends and teachers.

She was born in Hillsboro, Ore., in April, 1941 to Plenk and Margaret Barr. She and her sister, Mary Margaret, were raised in Hillsboro and Medford, Ore.

She loved singing and was involved in most musical productions during her school years. It was very common for her and her sister to be pulled into performing for family gatherings.

Coleen worked as a court clerk in Medford and in Portland for many years. She and her husband, Robert Johnson lived in Lake Oswego for many years, where Jenni and Jeffrey were born. My family joined Coleen's for many wonderful times at their lake home, accompanied by her many cousins and family members. She loved them and talked of them often.

By her side, when she finished her race, was her family, niece Amy Etzel, Rosemary Doolen Woods, myself and hospice. She knew of her cancer for only — weeks. She was sad to leave Bob, Jenni, Chad, Jeff, and her wonderful grandson Jackson, her many cousins, all so very special, lifelong friend Elaine Norris Meade (author), and the Meade family.

Preceding her in death, her parents and sister Mary Margaret Etzel, and nephew Darin Etzel. We all gathered again in July to celebrate her life. Condolences for the family can be sent to: ejmeade@msn.com. Until later my friend.
