Nolan Haugen

(Elmer) Nolan Haugen

A celebration of life for Nolan Haugen will be held Saturday, April 21, 2007, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Mountain View Estates Clubhouse, Talent, Ore. Pastor Tim Cartwright of Grace Lutheran Church, of Ashland will preside. All friends of the family are invited to attend.

Nolan Haugen joined Christ on March 10, 2007.

Nolan was born September 1, 1919 at Emanuel Hospital, Portland, Ore. On February 14, 1942, he married the love of his life, Betty Haugen. They were married 65 years, moved to Ashland in 1967 living above Lithia Park, and moved to Mountain View Estates in Talent in 1987.

After service with the 41st Division, 205th Field Artillery, seeing action in Australia and New Guinea, he attended the University of Oregon graduating with a bachelor degree in Business and a minor in Education. In 1968 he graduated from SOU with a masters degree in Education.

He worked several years as a salesman. The family moved to Ashland in 1967, so that his bride could begin the Nursing Program at Southern Oregon University, Ashland, serving as director until retirement in 1985. Nolan taught 16 years. One year at Merrill, Ore., and fifteen years at Eagle Point High School.

Nolan served as a member of the Oregon National Guard Reserve at the rank of Major. He was a member of the Elks for 36 years. Nolan enjoyed coaching Little League Hockey and Baseball, fishing, camping and travel.

He is survived by his bride, Betty, sons, Mark, an Ashland High graduate, 1974, and Jon, an Ashland High graduate, 1977, and the United States Naval Academy in 1981. Nolan enjoyed wearing a miniature set of Naval Aviation Wings presented by his son, Jon upon his graduation from the Naval Flight School.

Nolan is also survived by Mark's son, Barkley Haugen and Jon's children, Jessica, Benjamin and Allison Haugen, and his sister, Norma (Haugen) Helzer of Portland.
