The funeral for Clarence William Newlin will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2007, at the Litwiller Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will follow at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. A visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Litwiller Simonsen Funeral Home.

Mr. Newlin, 88, of Ashland, died Monday, April 23, 2007 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center. He was born November 16, 1918, in Wallace, Michigan, the son of Emily and Oscar Newlin. He graduated from high school in Stephenson, Michigan and served in the United States Army during World War II, where he received the Bronze Star.

On September 14, 1943, in Rolla, Missouri, he married the former Martha Pearl Witt. Mr. and Mrs. Newlin lived in San Gabriel, Calif., for 37 years; he worked as a building contractor. He retired in 1988 and moved to Ashland in 2001. Mrs. Newlin preceded him in death in 2002.

Mr. Newlin enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, and was a family reunion organizer. He was a member of the San Gabriel Union Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent.

Surviving are: his daughter, Shirley Deuel of Ashland; his son William Newlin of Bullhead City, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Sharlynn Lee, Bobby Deuel, Jessica Williams, and Jason Newlin; and — great grandchildren, Christian, Ana, and Noelle Lee.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lucille Newlin.
