Homer Earl Henderson

Homer Earl Henderson

Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:21. We are very sure these are the words Homer heard as he entered the gates of heaven on February 9, 2008. After Homer retired from the Santa Ana California Fire Department in 1964, he and his wife, Eupha, spent the next 40 years doing lay missionary work both here and abroad. His last mission field was this year at the Good News Club at Jacksonville Elementary School. Homer loved the Word of God and his life showed it. Homer could identify with any age group from children to seniors. One of his favorite ages to work with was teenagers. He was drawn to people and people loved him.

Homer was born in Fredonia, Kansas on December 8, 1917. He was married to his first wife, Eupha for 65 years. She preceded him in death in July, 2006. On January 4th of this year at the age of 90 he married Frances Fallon at Pioneer Village in Jacksonville, Oregon. She survives him. With his sudden passing, Fran not only grieves for him but for the loss of the dreams and hopes they had ahead of them.

He is also survived by his daughters, Shirley (Glen) Gellatly, of Laguna Beach, Calif., and Barbara (Jim) Oakes, of Jacksonville, Ore.; his sister, Betty Stanley, of Jacksonville, Ore.; two grandchildren, Jill Blankenship, and Amy Ryan; and five great-grandchildren, Loralee, Jeffrey, Christopher, McKenna, and Jacob will miss him greatly.

A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, February 13th at 1:00 p.m. at First Nazarene Church, 1974 E. McAndrews Rd., Medford, OR. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your own church missionaries in his memory.
