Ellen Heitmanek

God welcomed Ellen Heitmanek home on March 11, 2008, after her 91 years with us. She passed away peacefully at Northridge Center, where she had lived for the past several years.

She was born to Howell F. and Mary (Bartholomew) Lovell, January 17, 1917, in DeKalb, Ill. She attended DeKalb High School, and graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School, in Chicago. She married Jerry Heitmanek, January 21, 1939, in Chicago, Ill.

Ellen was a registered nurse at the Ashland Community Hospital until 1962, when she moved to Springfield, Ore. and became the administrator of the McKenzie Manor Nursing Home, until her retirement.

She enjoyed "rock hounding" with Jerry, camping, sewing, and doll making, and being with her family. She was a member of Bear Creek Church, Medford.

Ellen is survived by 5 children, Robert Heitmanek (Ellie), of Pendleton; Judy James (Larry), of Medford; Pat Johnson, of Medford; James Heitmanek (Donna), of Colton; and Thomas Heitmanek (Dianne), of Medford. She is also survived by one brother, John Lovell, of DeKalb, Ill., many nieces and nephews, 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and — great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Heitmanek; a grandson, Jerry James; and 6 brothers and sisters.

A funeral service and burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Springfield on Sunday, March 16, 2008, at 3:30. There will be a Memorial Service at the Bear Creek Church, St. Mary's School, Black Oak Drive, Medford, on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.

She will be missed by her family, and many friends who loved her. Her family would like to thank the staff at Northridge Center for their kindness and care of our mother. We would also like to thank the staff of Hospice for the excellent care they gave her over the past few weeks.
