Ryan Collins Bartlett

Ryan Collins Bartlett

Ryan Collins Bartlett, age 37, a Free Methodist Missionary in Malawi, Africa, died on Dec. 2, 2008, in a car accident while returning from delivering food to Free Methodist Pastors and students. Ryan was born in Medford, Ore., on June 12, 1971, the son of Ron and Gloria (Haggard) Bartlett, of Medford.

He graduated from South Medford High School in 1990, then went on to graduate from George Fox University in 1994, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. In 2001, he received his Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. After completing his education, he served as senior pastor at Prescott Free Methodist Church in Arizona for five years, and was ordained as a minister in 2005.

Ryan loved life and the thrill of new adventures, such as sky diving, skiing, world travel, flying, hiking, guitar and photography. He loved his wife and three children perfectly, and sought to serve the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength.

In 1998, Ryan and his wife went to Nigeria for the first time, and sensed that the Lord would call them there one day to serve in Africa. They became career missionaries in 2007 with Free Methodist World Missions, where Ryan served faithfully as the principal of the Great Commission Bible School in Malawi, Africa.

Ryan is survived by his wife of 14 years, Katie Bartlett; his three daughters, Anna Elizabeth (8 years old), Lydia Marie (6 years old), and Ella Joy (3 years old). He will be dearly missed by his parents, Ron and Gloria Bartlett; and brother, Paul Bartlett, of Medford, Ore.; his uncles, Merrill Haggard, of Eugene, Ore. and Loren Bartlettt, of Greeley, Colo.; his cousins, Mark and Kent Bartlett, Karen Trevino, and Sarah Schneider, from Colorado; cousin Brandis Havener, of Medford, Ore., and cousin, Nancy Horst, of Vancouver, Wash.

Ryan's life demonstrates sacrifice. He made a huge sacrifice to give up life in America to come and serve the Lord in Malawi. He constantly sacrificed his time to care for others and listen to others. Anyone who knew Ryan knew that he loved people. He saw that his friends needed food this year, and he did something about it, giving his life to help them. Ryan made many friends, people who will be forever impacted by his life and love for Jesus.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Medford First Christian Church, 1900 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Ryan Bartlett Memorial Fund for ministry in Malawi established with Free Methodist World Mission, P.O. Box 535002, Indianapolis, IN 46253-5002.
