Heaven gained an ornery saint. Terence Gregory Terry Blake departed earth on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Rogue Valley Medical Center following complications of pneumonia.
He was born in New York City to John R. Blake and Grace Clarry Blake. He graduated from Babylon High School, then ran away to join the Navy. He spent two decades in service attaining the rank of chief midway through his career. Following discharge from the military, he worked 12 years as a supervisor at the Suffolk County, N.Y. Department of Labor. There he met and married Florence Calderone in 1981. They moved to Beagle, Ore., in August of 1987.
Terry belonged to Messiah Assembly of Central Point, where he served as Deacon for 10 years. Among his other memberships, the Vietnam veteran listed the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Non-commissioned Officers Association, and Southern Oregon Woodturners.
Survivors include his wife, Florence, of White City, Ore.; son, T. Gregory Blake, of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter, Christina Blake, of Long Island, N.Y.; brothers, William Mike Blake, of Orlando, Fla., and Jack Blake, of Long Island; stepchildren, Alfred Koehly, and Joleen Koehly; and three grandchildren. Son, Timothy Blake predeceased Terry in 1992.
Per Terry's wishes, his cremains will be scattered in his Sams Valley garden. Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives is in charge of arrangements. Messiah Assembly Congregation Elder Dan Harvey will preside at the memorial on Feb.21, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in the Grange Hall at Fifth Street and East Pine, Central Point. A potluck lunch will follow.
