A memorial graveside service will be held Friday, May 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at Eagle Point National Cemetery for Elmer R. Savikko, 84, of Central Point, who died April 29, 2009. Rev. Paul Hagedorn, Providence Hospice Chaplain will officiate. Mr. Savikko was born June 30, 1924 in Douglas, Alaska to Herman and Elli (Tiitto) Savikko. He served in the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant from 1943 to 1945. On Sept. 29, 1957, he married the former June E. Bluechel, who preceded him in death Feb. 7, 2008. Mr. Savikko received his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington in 1952. He operated Savikko Engineering in Ashland for many years and was involved in the engineering of the Providence Hospital expansions.

Survivors include his brother, Ben Savikko of Douglas, Alaska and sisters-in-law, Nell Savikko, Lorein Savikko, and Martha Savikko; his nieces, Joerene, Evalyn, Allison, Kathleen, Ellen, Elaine, Linda, Lana, Coreen and Michele Bilyeu; and nephews, Doug, Herman, Kurt, Rick, Albert, and Bern Savikko and Bill Sandbank.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elli and Herman Savikko; his sisters, Hilda Savikko, Jennie Sandbank and Alma Gebbart; his brothers, Walter, Herbert, Hjalmar, Robert, Albert and Bruno Savikko; and his nephew, Walter Savikko, Jr. and numerous others.
