SFC Thornton Blizzard

SFC (Retired U.S. Army)Thornton Blizzard, 76, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2009 at his home.

SFC Thornton Blizzard was born Nov. 21, 1932 in Surry, Va., to the late Martha Anne Spratley and William Blizzard. SFC Blizzard served our country proudly in the face of segregation for 23 years in the U.S. Army. Army Infantry and Medical Corp. Serving in both the Korean and the Vietnam Wars and retiring as a Sergeant First Class receiving honors too numerous to list. Following his military career he worked briefly as an LPN at RVMC. He later retired a career with MedCo. Blizzard will always be remembered as a devoted father and friend.

Survivors include daughters, Cherwanda Oliver, Marilyn Blizzard, Cassandra Blizzard, Sheri Tate, Samantha Blizzard, Sabrina Bogart (Duane), Jacqueline Blizzard Dean (Eddie) and Camille Riley-Blizzard; sons, Steve Blizzard (Ramona) and Isaac Blizzard; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, William Blizzard, George Blizzard and Percell Blizzard.

A memorial service with viewing will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 26 2009 at Conger-Morris Funeral Home 715 West Main St, Medford, Ore., Chaplain Dave Campbell to officiate. Flowers or floral arrangements can be sent to the funeral home in his name. Upon Blizzards request please reflect upon his favored bible passage; 2Timothy 4:6-8

A graveside service with full military honors will be held in Arlington Virginia at a later time.
