Stanford Rozel Smith, 94, of Medford, Ore., died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 23, 2009.
Stan was born October 30, 1914 in Kearney, Neb., and graduated from high school in 1932. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma, prior to WWII. During WWII, he was an instructor in fire control at a school in Washington D.C. where he met and later married Marilyn McCabe on April 27, 1946, in El Segundo, Calif. In El Segundo, Stan worked as an instrument technician for the Standard Oil Company. In 1962, the family was transferred to Saudi
Arabia, where Stan worked for Aramco Oil Company, until he retired in 1975 in San Jose, Calif. After his retirement, Stan and Marilyn traveled extensively all over the world before moving to Medford, Oregon, in 2002, to be closer to family. After 59 years of marriage, Marilyn passed away in December 2005. Stan was an avid golfer, loved all sports, puttering in the garden, being with his family and he enjoyed debating politics - he really enjoyed debating politics!
