Timothy Joel Wood

Timothy Joel Wood, 57, passed away at Evergreen Health and Rehab Center with a fast-growing brain tumor, on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, 1:00 p.m., at the Church of Christ with Minister, Doug Edmonds officiating. Viewing will be one hour before the service. Burial will be later in Phoenix , Ore., at the Hillcrest Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is handling arrangements.

Timothy was born on Oct. 21, 1951, in Abilene, Texas, to Ralph and Charlotte Wood. The family moved back to Oregon in 1953, where they moved to Ashland, Ore., in March of 1954. He attended schools in Ashland and graduated in May 1970.

He worked at numerous and varied jobs before going into the Navy where he was stationed on the USS Nathaniel Greene Nuclear Submarine. After being discharged, he worked on farms, as a taxi driver, carnival driver, telephone lineman in Montana, tow truck driver, big-rig cross country driver, Harley mechanic, Medford Mail Tribune carrier and worked at a truck wash.

Then in the fall of 1997, he moved to La Grande, Ore., where he logged for Ken McCoy and worked at the Blue Mt. Animal Shelter before he had a back injury and forced to retire. He was actively involved with the Union County Search and Rescue. He became a Man Tracker in the unit. He had a real passion for his Jeep and rock crawling with it. He was also involved with the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Wood of La Grande, Ore.; his brothers, John and Diana Wood, of Dayton, Ohio, Dr. James and Maritza Wood, of Uvalde, Texas, Thomas and Malinda Wood, of Ashland, Ore.; and sister, Charity and Richard Henry, of La Grande, Ore. He also has many other family and friends.
