D. Lorraine Eichenberg

— D. Lorraine Eichenberg

D. Lorraine Eichenberg was born June 29, 1926 and left our world on Oct. 15, 2009.

A strong woman, her 83 years were at times challenging and always joyous and loving. Lorraine had a willingness to grow and change, exploring her ever-evolving beliefs and sharing her deep love and understanding of life with others. Her love of dogs knew no ends; she was without a doubt "dog's best friend."

An Air Force wife at 19, she raised her daughters around the world, moving households kit and caboodle every few years, settling in Southern California in the 1960's. Her strength and independence served her well. She became a certified medical assistant, carrying on her desire to help others. Missing the closeness of family, she moved to Humboldt County in 1979, where her daughters were living. There, Lorraine became the proprietor of a small business for several years and served as a Hospice respite volunteer specializing in AIDS patients.

In 1993, she met her soul mate, Murry Delson. Their love for each other inspired us all. Together, Lorraine and Murry faced her brittle diabetes and his Lou Gehrig's disease. Their love was their refuge. After Murry's death in 2005, Lorraine lived with her daughters, Gena and Judith in Humboldt County, and then with Robin and Richard in Ashland. For two years she resided at Mountain View Senior Living Community and enjoyed many close friends. Lorraine returned to Robin and Richard's home where she was nursed with loving care until her peaceful passing.

Lorraine was the epitome of style and grace. She taught her girls that pearls are to be worn with everything and the perfect jewel, scarf or boot adds the final touch of class. In addition to her sense of style, Lorraine gave her daughters a love of cooking and recipes that have become family treasures. She was renowned for her cream cheese pie, lasagna, and perfect gravy. Always the adventurer, in her 60's Lorraine hiked the Lost Coast, backpacked in Belize, explored New Zealand with Gena, and enjoyed Spain with Murry.

She enriched our lives, loving us all unconditionally. Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Gena Rae Eichenberg, her daughter, Judith Ann and husband, Lowell Roberts, her daughter, Robin Jo and husband, Richard Lawler, her loving grandchildren, Jill and husband, Ron Marr; and great-grandson, Lucas Marr, Jason Esquerra, Jacob Roberts,

Geoffrey Huber and wife, Anna, Zachary Roberts, Ely Ahle and fiance, Kathleen Wagenaar, Ashley Ahle and her partner, Casey Cunningham, who both thrilled Lorraine with the news that her second great-grandson is arriving in January. Also, and always, by her devoted dog, Razzle.

A potluck celebration of Lorraine's life will be held at Robin and Richard Lawler's home in Ashland at 2:00 in the afternoon on Nov. 14, 2009.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lorraine's memory to ACH Hospice Care Services, 1970 Ashland Street-Suite — Ashland, OR 97520 or Miranda Animal Rescue, 1603 Sandy Prairie Road, Alton, CA 95540
