John Joseph Thomas III

John Joseph Thomas III

Nov. 7, 1979-Oct. 21, 2009

John fell desperately into the arms of his maker, the Lord Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009. John will forever be missed here on earth.

John was born in Medford, Ore., to Cathleen and John Joseph Thomas II. John was raised in Rogue River, Ore., by Robert Vaughn, his stepfather and his mother, Cathy Vaughn. Johnny was a stellar athlete who loved to play football, baseball, soccer and wrestling. In 1994, John was chosen to be athlete of the week; all the other nominees were in high school, while good ol' Johnny boy was a dominating eighth grader who received the honor.

All who knew John will agree that just being in his presence was an amazing feeling.

Johnny graduated from Rogue River High School in 1998, attended Pacific University as well as Oregon State University. Go Beavers! Some would say he bled orange and black. He later took a job working for Costco in Albany, Ore. and as you could probably guess, he stole the hearts of all who were honored to work alongside him. Even though Johnny was a supervisor, he always said no matter the rank, we are all one in the same. Costco is where John met and quickly fell in love with his beloved bride, Helen Loraine Rollema Thomas or as Johnny would say "Sweets". They married on June 12, 2004. John J was filled with so much joy that wonderful day that there are truly no words to explain how much he loved her. Helen was the piece that made the puzzle complete.

John loved the outdoors and spent a lot of his time hunting with his brothers out there on secret creek, a place that we go often to ponder and recall oh so many things, or to just sit and do nothing at all. This is also where the boys will visit each elk season and try their darndest to get the big one. Fishing was also a passion he loved. Johnny loved to spend time with his family and with no doubt was the life of the party.

Oh sweet Johnny J, how greatly you will be missed by all!

Survivors include, wife, Helen Thomas; mom, Cathleen Vaughn; stepdad, Robert Vaughn; father, John Joseph Thomas II; sisters, Heather Dawn Smith, Angie Anstett and Shannon Amos; brothers, Bret Thomas and J.T. Vaughn; 15 nieces and nephews, Kenny Jr., Cassie, Tyler, Tynaia, Aaron, Andrew, Gabby, Jake, Isabel, Brenon, Stephen, John Catherine, Roberta and Avery.

He was preceded in death by grandfather, Lester; uncle Larry; stepmother, Sue; and dear friend, Cody Howell.

Memorial services will be held Oct. 29, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at Albany First Assembly of God, 281 Santiam Hwy. SE, (541) 926-2291. Nov. 7, 2009, 11:00 a.m., Rogue River High School, (541) 582-3428.

With Christ we never have to say goodbye. We love you John Joseph Thomas!
