Walter was born at home on Jan. 9, 1912 in Elgin, Mont., to Minnie Rosella Gross/Kesterson and Franklin Amos Kesterson. He died peacefully in his home Sept. 8, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents; oldest sister, Rosella Shafer; his wife of 72 years, Ruth Evelyn Carey/Kesterson; grandson, Eugene Aries; and great-grandson, Andrew King.

He is survived by his daughter, Marlene Aries, of Central Point, Ore; son, Gerald Kesterson, of Redmond, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Walter served on the S.S. Cape Orange, out of San Francisco during WWII, as a stewards mate 2 class from April 2, 1944 to Aug. 5, 1944. In 1950, he moved from Chico, Calif., to Medford, Ore., to establish a route for the "Family Cake and Cookie Co." His family moved up from Chico later to join him. Later he started his own route; "The Kesterson Family Toys," which he ran until he retired. He loved to hunt, fish and camp with family and friends. He also loved to play solitaire along with his great-grandchildren.

Thanks to Rogue Valley Hospice for their help and support. Services will be held Summer 2010 with the scattering of his ashes.
