David Douglas Hanna died on July 25, 2010, at RVMC, Medford, Ore. He had suffered a fatal stroke and died peacefully in the arms of his wife, Renee, surrounded by family and friends.
David was born on Nov. 12, 1937, and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Maude Hanna, to whom he will be eternally grateful for their love and their name. He spent his childhood in Portland, Ore., and then moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he attended high school; and later the University of Arizon as a member of Pi Kappa Alpha.
David began his career at IBM as a young man. He became a development engineer scientist and worked in San Jose and raised his family there with his wife, Joann, until he retired in 1997, and moved to Ashland.
Before retirement he enjoyed many activities. He was a lifetime member ARRL (American Radio Relay League) and his call sign was N6XH. David was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, as an Order of the Arrow Brotherhood member. He was also a Clan Hannah Scottish American Branch Member. David enjoyed pheasant hunting, fly fishing, trap shooting, and especially enjoyed years of Scottish country dancing with his late wife ,Joann.
In Ashland, he was a member of SASS, AGC, and SOPA, where he developed deep friendships, played bocce ball, croquet and devoted his artistic talents to photography. David loved his life, his dog, Mackenzie, his family, his friends and his wife, Renee, and often said he was the luckiest man in the world not only to have had one great love, but two.
David was preceded in death by Joann, beloved wife and mother. He is survived by wife, Renee Hanna; daughter, Debora; sons, Terry (Felicia) and Ken (Victoria); grandchildren, Sora and Rowan; siblings, Gail, Phyllis and Douglas. He will be missed!
A memorial service, in his honor, will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010, 3:30 p.m., at The United Methodist Church, 175 Main St., Ashland, OR. Rev. Pamela Nelson-Munson will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by Litwiller-Simonsen, Ashland, OR.
