Richard Dunbar Cadle

Richard Dunbar Cadle, 95, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010, in Medford, Ore. He was born September 23, 1914, in Painesville, Ohio, to Margaret Dunbar Cadle and Thomas Priday Cadle. As a child, he lived in Mentor, Ohio, Waikiki Beach and Hilo, Hawaii. He graduated from Case-Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio and obtained a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle. While living in Seattle, he married Edna Saer on May 2, 1940.

Richard worked for Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio, the China Lake Naval Weapons Center in California, Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, Calif., and as an atmospheric chemist for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colo. During his career he published five books on atmospheric chemistry and worked extensively on the effects of volcanoes and pollutants on the atmosphere. Richard retired in 1979. In 1994, he and Edna moved to Medford, Ore.

Hobbies he enjoyed included geology, photography and reading.

Survivors include: his three sons and their wives, Donald and Sharon, of Sunnyvale, Calif., Steven and Sherry, of Shelby Township, Mich., and Gary and Kathy, of Medford, Ore.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sisters.
