John William Greene

John W. Greene peacefully passed away September 6, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He has gone to join the love of his life, Anne, who went before him in July 2004. John was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa, on September 2, 1929, to Glenn William and Cecile Agnes (Morrow) Greene.

John attended grade schools and graduated from Missouri Valley High in 1947. He immediately joined the Army Air Guard. He trained in Texas and was sent to Guam for Air/Sea Rescue. Upon returning to the states, he was based at Fairchild Air Force Base, where he was honorably discharged in 1949.

It was in Spokane, Wash., that he met a beautiful lady who was studying to become a Registered Nurse. They dated, and on July 20, 1951, John and Anne Rose married in a beautiful ceremony. They moved to Montana where they lived together for 53 years. During this marriage, they were blessed with four children.

John was constantly assisting others, and would provide for people that he barely knew. He was a leader in Kiwanis, and past president of the Hospice of Anaconda, Mont. He had a magnetic personality and a love for people and life. He could be seen smiling and laughing on all occasions. With his business acumen, he was able to successfully run two short-line railroads and help other businesses reach their full potential. He was an honorable man that believed his word was his bond. Upon his retirement, he and his wife would travel around the world on cruise ships. They flew aboard the Concorde prior to it being put out of service. He never lost his love of flying and was a lifetime pilot. He was constantly encouraging not only his own children to learn how to fly, but others as well. When he lost his eyesight, he loved flying with his daughter, Christine.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; parents, Glenn and Cecile; brother, Richard Greene; and grandson, Michael Thomas Hampton. He is survived by his brother, Jim (Ruth) Greene, of Arkansas; children, John W. Greene, Jr. (Gaylelynn), of Cascade, Mont., Christine R. Hampton (Paul), of Ashland, Ore., Michael G. Greene (Jennifer), of Lake Charles, La., Patricia A. Greene, of Salem, Ore.; grandchildren, John R. Hampton, of Ashland, Ore., Michael "Spencer" Greene, of Lake Charles, La., Shamai R.
