Leah Elizabeth Watson
Leah Elizabeth Watson, of Medford, Ore., passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011. She was born in Lafayette, Ind., on August 4, 1906, to William and Eltha Kellogg. Leah was valedictorian at age 16, when she graduated from high school in Michigan City, Ind. She moved to Medford, Ore., with her parents and three younger sisters, and began working for her uncle, "Pop" Gates, at Medford's first Ford car dealership.
Leah married John V. "J.V." Watson on April 18, 1925, and raised four children, Randall, John Jr. (Jerrie), Leah Anne Kelley, of Medford, Ore., and Mary Lee (Jerry) Lauchner, of Gilbert, Ariz. After 67 years of marriage, J.V., died in July 1992.
Leah always took good care of herself and loved life. She celebrated her 100th birthday with many family members attending, and was thrilled to receive birthday greetings from the White House, signed by President Bush on her 101st birthday.
Leah is survived by her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three younger sisters; husband; and three grandsons.
