Dorothy Call Arnold
Dorothy Arnold lost her short battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at her son's home on January 13, 2011, in Medford, Ore. Dorothy was born May 14, 1921, in Palo Alto, Calif., to George and Hazel Garrigus Call.
She graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1938. She met J. Edwin Arnold, a Stanford University student, the same year. He graduated in 1940, and they were married February 13, 1941. They lived in Iowa, New York City, then Pennsylvania. As their family grew, they moved back to California in 1945. They lived in Eureka from 1946 to 1959, as Ed pursued his career in radio broadcasting, then on to Grants Pass, Ore., until their move to Horton Plaza in Medford in 2008.
Dorothy worked as the bookkeeper for KAGI Radio in Grants Pass alongside her husband, Eddy Arnold, who was president and general manager of KAGI. They retired in 1979, and moved to Seville, Spain, for more than a year. They traveled extensively starting in 1967, to Europe and then over the years, world wide to over 40 other countries. The last out of the country trip was to South America in 2001. They continued their annual trips to Hawaii until 2008.
Dorothy was an avid bridge player. She played in bridge clubs from high school until three weeks ago. She was involved in many activities over the years, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA (president several years), P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter EX in Grants Pass (president several years), and church groups. Ed and Dorothy were active members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Grants Pass for decades. Her life was also filled with her gardening, her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was an amazing woman!
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 69 years, John Edwin Arnold; her two sons, Jed Arnold, of Grants Pass, and George (Becky) Arnold; three grandchildren, Doug Arnold, Trevor (Hollie) Arnold and Tiffany (Ramon) Reso; and four great-grandchildren, Cody and Cassidy Arnold, and Manda and Michael Reso, all of Medford, Ore.
