Winston M. Hartzog

Winston Win Hartzog, 86, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Northridge Center Assisted Living in Phoenix, Ore. Win was born October 28, 1924, to Bernard and Clodie Hartzog in Vernonia, Ore.

Win grew up in Longview, Wash., where his father worked in the lumber industry. He served his country in the Marines during World War II in the Pacific; he was an aircraft mechanic and gunner. After the war, he stayed in Hawaii for over 30 years and worked on the Pu'uwa'awa'a Ranch as a foreman.

After Hawaii, Win lived in a number of places, including Maine, San Diego and finally Medford, Ore. Win was a longtime member of the American Legion as well as a member of the Senior Center in Medford.

Win's longtime partner, Elaine Speare, preceded him in death in 2008, as did his much loved grandson, Jess Landwehr, in 1997.

For the past two years, Win lived at the Northridge Center in Phoenix, and made many friends there. The loving care he received there was very comforting to Win, and very much appreciated by all who loved him.

Win is survived by his sons, Scott Landwehr, of Medford, and Jeff Landwehr, of Bend. Win was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at the Northridge Center, 3737 S.

Pacific Highway, Medford, on March 24, 2011, at 1:00 p.m.
