Dorothy Amy Wolf
Dorothy Amy Wolf passed away February 16, 2011, surrounded by family members.
Dorothy Amy Fader was born October 24, 1918 in a logging camp near Lodi, Calif. to parents, James W. Fader and Amy (Crump) Fader, the fifth of six children: James, Joseph, Melvin, Aileen, Dorothy, and Donna.
Her father was a cook in the logging camps, mostly in Southern Oregon, and was known for his excellent pies! Young Dorothy learned to cook from her father and was also known for her excellent pies! During the Great Depression Dorothy and her mother took in laundry and ironing and made pies on order for special occasions. Dorothy attended Medford Junior High School until ninth grade. As a teenager, Dorothy was a waitress, and continued waitressing until 1949. Dorothy worked part of this time in a restaurant owned by her father in Chiloquin, Ore.
In 1936 Dorothy married Harland A. Wolf. On November 7, 1948 a son, Donald Alan Wolf, was born to the couple. A short time later Harland and Dorothy divorced, after which Dorothy returned to the Medford/Ashland area to be closer to her family.
Determined to support her son by herself, Dorothy acquired a typewriter and taught herself how to type and take shorthand. She got work as a private secretary for an attorney and later started her career with Jackson County working for the judges, the county clerk's office, treasurer's office, and for the county commissioners. She worked for Jackson County for 23 years.
When Dorothy was 88, she moved closer to her son in Mount Vernon, Wash. Dorothy loved her new home and was often heard to say that she was "happy as a clam." Her only disappointment was that the Mount Vernon Senior Center only played pinochle once a week, while the Medford Senior Center played daily.
Dorothy is survived by one sister, Donna Lantis, of Medford; her son, Don and his wife, Danya; grandsons, Chris (and his wife, Bridget), Seaver and Rogan; and granddaughter, Amanda (and fianc, Les).
A memorial service was held at the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church and Dorothy is interred at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Mount Vernon, Wash.
