Clara Elfrieda Beer

October 3, 1922 - August 5, 2011

Clara Elfrieda Beer, nee Buhl, was born October 3, 1922, to Arvilla D. Cannon Buhl and Emil Gust Buhl, on the Webber Ranch in Altures, Calif. She was raised in New Pine Creek, Ore., and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1940. She moved to Medford, Ore., the day following graduation to attend Medford Beauty School on a scholarship.

She married Hubert Donald Beer in Medford, on May 3, 1941. They had three children, Rtd. Navy Lt. Bill Eugene Beer, of Creswell, Ore., Barbara Beer Atkins and Douglas Scott Beer (Penny), of Medford, Or.

In the 1950's, she worked packing pears for Rogue River Orchards and in 1962-1963, she attended Licensed Practical Nursing School and worked at R.V.M.C. She was in the second registered nurse class at Southern Oregon College (now Southern Oregon University) and received her nursing degree in 1971. She worked the rest of her professional career on the medical floor at R.V.M.C., retiring at the end of 1987. Following retirement, she volunteered for the Red Cross.

Clara belonged to the Avon Bottle Collector's Club in the 1980's and enjoyed collecting white hobnail glass. She loved "Gone with the Wind" memorabilia. Her greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by her children; five grandchildren; and six great gandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one granddaughter, Monica L. Beer; and her sister, Mildred A. De Shazer.

A graveside service will be held at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Siskiyou Blvd., on Tuesday, August 9, at 10:00 a.m. A viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
