Martha (Pat)

Parker Brooks

Martha Parker Brooks, of Trail, Ore., passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011, of cancer, at home surrounded by family. She was born on March 28, 1927, in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of Cola Godden Parker and Martha Fraser Parker, both deceased.

She graduated from George School and attended Smith College. Pat had always been active in the community, having been a member and/or officer in the Upper Rogue Community Center, Friends of the Library, Home Extension, and the Wild Flower Association along with other organizations. She was a volunteer at Access and the St. Martin's Food Pantry.

She was a rancher for the past 53 years, owning and operating the Obstinate J Ranch with her sister and children. She was a birthright member of the Manhassett Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends and attends St. Martin's Episcopal Church of Shady Cove, Ore., of which she was a founding member.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Valentine Fraser Parker; and her sister, Barbara Parker Johnson. She is survived by her son, William Fraser Brooks; and daughter, Martha Brooks; four grandchildren; six (soon to be seven) great-grandchildren; and her brother, Sumner Parker, of Easton, Md.

A celebration of life will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the St. Martin's Episcopal Church, in Shady Cove, Ore., with a reception to follow at the Upper Rogue Community Center.
