Arthur "Art" Y. Lancaster

Arthur Art Lancaster passed away quietly on Friday, August 12, 2011, at his home in Central Point, Ore. He was born May 22, 1933, in Arcata, Calif., to Yvon and Julia Lancaster.

Upon graduation from high school, Art joined the Air Force and served in the Aleutian Islands. Attaining the rank of staff sergeant, he was honorably discharged in 1955.

In the late 1970s, Art met and fell for the girl next door. On October 3, 1981, he married Virginia Gray, who survives. Art spent many years in the timber industry in California and Oregon before retiring from Timber Products as a foreman in 1993. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and loved his dogs.

In addition to his wife, Art is survived by sons, Alan Gray and David Gray; daughter, Connie Schulz; sister-in-law, Penny Carter; two grandsons; one great-grandson; three nephews and nieces; and six grand-nephews and nieces. Art was preceded in death by his parents; and his younger brother, Ronald Lancaster.

A committal service with military honors will be held Thursday, August 18, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Reverend Herbert Percy will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Asante Hospice Program, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504, or the Humane Society of Southern Oregon, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501.
