Guy Barton Hedrick
Guy Barton Hedrick, 97, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at his home, Horton Plaza Retirement Community, with his wife, Florence, by his side.
Guy was born on May 5, 1914, in Seminole, Okla., to Grover and Lula Hedrick. He had a brother, Arthur Hedrick; and sisters, Bea Hedrick Line and Rubye Hedrick Wageman; all preceded him in death.
Guy grew up in Weslaco, Texas, and moved to Southern Calif., when he was 18 years old. He met his future wife, Florence Fredrickson, in 1939, at Roberts Ranch Market on Atlantic Blvd., in Los Angeles, Calif. They were married on September 27, 1941, in Las Vegas, Nev. Guy joined the Coast Guard in 1942. He served in the South Pacific during World War II, and he was honorably discharged in 1945.
Guy and Florence lived in the Los Angeles area, working in the retail grocery business, until moving to Southern Oregon in 1964. They bought a horse ranch in Central Point, Ore., and Guy was employed by Reeder Fruit Co., until his retirement in 1985. They then moved to Prospect, Ore., and later to Medford, Ore., in 1990. Guy and Florence moved to Horton Plaza in 2009, where they have enjoyed living and meeting many new friends.
Guy attended First Church of the Nazarene, in Medford. He loved his horses, fishing, and gardening. He was also a true Los Angeles Dodger baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years (minus 48 days), Florence; nephew, Barry Line, of Cedar City, Utah; nephew, Raymond Christensen, of Downey, Calif.; and niece, LeeAnn Pearson, of Sandy, Ore.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, August 18, 2011, 1:30 p.m., at First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews Rd., Medford, Ore. Officiating will be Pastor David Grinder and Pastor Kevin Gowland.
Arrangements are handled by Funeral Alternatives. Final resting place will be the Eagle Point National Cemetery, in Eagle Point, Ore.
