Helen Magdelena Briscoe
Helen Briscoe, 96, passed away on August 15, 2011, at the Rogue Valley Manor, having lived a long and wonderful life.
Helen was born December 1, 1914, to Robert and Delena McRea, in Lenora, Kan. At the age of five, her parents moved to Peetz, Colo., to be dryland wheat farmers. After high school, Helen was fortunate to attend Colorado State College in Greeley, Colo., graduating in 1936, with a business teaching degree. She taught business, shorthand, and typing at Gill High School, in Gill, Colo., for six and a half years.
Helen married Stewart Briscoe on December 24, 1938, and they raised three daughters, Lynn, Gail, and Jan, on their dairy farm east of Greeley. In 1963, she earned her library science degree, and was hired as the district librarian at Kersey High School, in Kersey, Colo., until her retirement 17 years later in 1980.
Her husband, Stewart, passed away in 1981, and Helen moved to Medford, Ore., in 1985, to be near her daughter, Jan, and her family. She moved to the manor in 1997, enjoying many activities, plus her favorite pastime, walking. She was well known and admired for walking several miles a day, always carrying her beloved rosary.
Survivors include her daughter, Jan Sinner (Dwight), of Medford; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart; and her daughters, Lynn Neal, and Gail Jurgensen.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, or Sacred Heart Church of Medford.
