Laura Ann Pastorino Patterson

Laura Ann Pastorino Patterson passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at her home at Horton Plaza, with her daughter at her side.

Laura was born in Sebastopol, Calif., June 20, 1914, to Giovanni and Louisa Pastorino, and was raised by a foster mom, Anna McDonald. She moved to the Brownsboro area of the Rogue Valley in 1918. Later moving to Medford, Ore., Laura graduated from Medford High in 1932 and Southern Oregon Normal in 1935.

In 1936, Miss Pastorino started her teaching career at Central Point Elementary and met her future husband the same year, Don Patterson, at his Flying A Mobile gas station in Central Point. They were married in 1939, in Vancouver, Wash. Taking a leave from teaching, they lived at Lake of the Woods as Don was working for the Forest Service.

As World War II progressed, she was asked to come back to teach fifth grade at Central Point Elementary. They moved to Central Point and had a daughter, Judy, and a son, Donnie. Don now worked for the Grange Co-op. As a family, they spent lots of time at their cabin at Lake of the Woods, enjoying family outings and trips. Laura loved to fish, pick huckleberries, garden and read.

In 1969, Don and Laura retired. They became avid golfers and traveled the states and to Europe and took several cruises. They traveled to Ariz., for the winters. After 62 years of marriage, Don passed away in 2001.

Laura was a Girl Scout leader for 17 years, a 50+ year member of Eastern Star, and president of the Central Point Garden Club. She and Don belonged to a dance club, Lions Club and of course Laura was involved in the PTA.

Mrs. Patterson is survived by her daughter, Judy (Kalau) Reeves, of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Debbie Patterson, of Davis; grandchildren, Cona Lewis, Gavin Allen, Tiffany (Roger) Wilson, and Tim (Kelli) Patterson; four great grandchildren; and a great, great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her five siblings; her husband, Don; and her son, Don.

The memorial service for Laura A. Patterson will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2011, at Perl Funeral Home.
