Vernon Edwin Oberg
Vernon E. Oberg, 78, of Medford, Ore., passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011.
Vernon was born on January 11, 1933, in Shelburn Township, Minn. The son of Arthur and Emma Oberg, he grew up on a farm and graduated high school in Walnut Grove, Minn., in 1951.
Vernon was in the U.S. Navy for four years, stationed near Seattle, Wash., and Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended the University of Minnesota, and received a degree in forestry. Vernon moved to Oregon for a career with the U.S. Forest Service.
On July 12, 1975, Vernon married Patricia (Lull) Dungan, of Central Point, Ore. Pat passed away on January 15, 1996.
On June 26, 1999, Vernon married Jolene Bayne, of Medford, Ore.
Vernon enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Oregon Hunters Association and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Lutheran churches in the Rogue Valley.
Surviving Vernon are his wife, Jolene; stepchildren; and step-grandchildren; brothers, Wilbur Oberg, of Walnut Grove, Minn., Marvin (Marjorie) Oberg, of Milroy, Minn., and David (Jean) Oberg, of Littleton, Colo.; and sister, Diane (Vernon) Krentz, of Hutchinson, Minn.
A private service will be held.
