Catherine Root Mink
September 2, 1948 - October 7, 2011
With her family at her bedside, Catherine Root Mink passed away on October 7, 2011. Cathy was born in Medford, Ore., on September 2, 1948, to parents, Robert and Betty Root. She was educated in Medford schools, Roosevelt, Hoover, Hedrick, and Medford Senior High. Cathy was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at Oregon State University where she received both a bachelor and master of science degrees in education.
Cathy was a teacher in the Salem-Keizer school district where she advanced to principal of Hayesville, Keizer, Sumpter, and finished her career as director of elementary education for the district. After retirement, she served as principal of the Oregon School for the Deaf and Howard Street Charter School.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Mink; sons, Johnathon and Robert; mother, Betty Root; sister, Susan (Michael) Collins; brother, Timothy (Anne) Root; nephews, Daniel and Matthew Root; and other family members. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Root.
On Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 1 p.m., a celebration of life will be held at Morning Star Church, 4775 27th Avenue SE, Salem, Oregon 97302.
