Bruce Allen Schwartz

Bruce Allen "Spider" Schwartz, 61, loving husband, son, brother, father and grandfather, of Medford, Ore., passed away in the early morning on November 19, 2011, following a short illness, surrounded by family in his own home.

Bruce was born January 31, 1950, in Eugene, Ore., to Margret and O. Ray Schwartz. His family moved to Medford in 1950, where he resided ever since. His family founded Rogue Boarding Kennel, which they operated for 23 years.

He attended Griffin Creek Elementary School, McLaughlin Junior High, and graduated from Medford Senior High in 1968. He was a member of the band Caballeros (complimented as compatible to the Herb Alpert band) in high school, playing trumpet, and active in band activities in high school and college. He attended Southern Oregon College, pursued a music degree.

His career included management in restaurant and lounge service for many years, retiring from active work in 2005.

He had been active in Lions, was a member of the Quarter Century Club and received several awards, including international president's certificate of appreciation and recognition for secretary and presidential service. He had been a member of the Crater and Talent Lions clubs, was a Charter member of the South Medford Lions club, and most recently a member of the Medford Host Lions club.

Bruce considered himself as "a people person, I love people," and loved to be involved in people organizations, which he enjoyed sharing with his mother, Margaret.

He was a proud supporter of our country and our troops, and an amazing trivia buff. He loved his family, his dogs and his mother's dogs, football, Westerns and spending Sundays with his "bingo family" at the Moose Lodge. He was actively involved with the Sons of the American Legion and the Loyal Order of the Moose, being junior governor at the time of his death.

Bruce is survived by his wife of over 34 years, Wanda; his mother, Margaret; his brother, Keith (Debbie); his sister, Beverly (Gene) Delazerda; sons, Chris, and Ray (Amber); grandchildren, Aedan, Mari, and Maddex; several nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, O. Ray; and brother, Kent, both in 1979.

Sincere appreciation to those who patiently cared for him while at Rogue Valley Medical Center, all staff of Medical/Oncology, doctors, chaplains (especially Chaplain Carol), physical therapists. He appreciated you all. Thank you to Social Services and Asante Hospice for helping bring Bruce home to us where he wanted to be.
