Margaret Anne Cressy

April 9, 1923 - November 25, 2011

Margaret Anne Cressy, 88, of Jacksonville, Ore., passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Medford, Ore., on November 18.

Margaret was born in Hollister, Calif., on April 9, 1923, to Thomas and Katherine Regan. She graduated from San Benito Union High School in 1941 and from San Jose State College in 1945 with a degree in education. She went on to become an elementary school teacher in King City, Calif. She met her husband, Leonard Cressy, during World War II, while he was in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Hollister. They married on July 27, 1947, and had nine children. This year they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Margaret was a homemaker and the family lived principally in Alameda, Calif. There, she found time from her busy schedule to substitute teach and volunteer. When Leonard retired from the car insurance business in 1984, the couple moved to Jacksonville, Ore. They spent their retirement years active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Medford, volunteering thousands of hours over nearly three decades in the Society's shelter and soup kitchen. Margaret and Leonard were also active members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. Her constant caring and warmth touched her family and all who knew Margaret. She was truly beautiful inside and out.

Margaret had a deep faith in God, and the Cressy family thanks all that offered their thoughts and prayers for Margaret as she completed her journey to heaven. The Cressy family also wants to thank the doctors and nurses at Rogue Valley Medical Center for their compassionate care of Margaret.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Curtis Young and Thomas Regan, Jr.; and her daughter, Joan Williams. Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Leonard Cressy; her daughters, Susan Verhees, of Central Point, Ore., Ann Zammattio, of Aviano, Italy, and Peggy Figueira, of Shady Cove, Ore.; sons, Dan Cressy, of Roseburg, Ore., John Cressy, of Ventura, Calif., Steve Cressy, of Alameda, Calif., Bob Cressy, of Alameda, Calif., and Brian Cressy, of Hercules, Calif.; her sister, Shirley Beall, of San Jose, Calif.; sons-in-law, Duilio Zammattio, Ray Figueira, and Pat Williams; daughters-in-laws, Lavonne Cressy, Kathleen Cressy and Rosalee Cressy; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is to be held Sunday, December 4, 2011, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, Ore.
