Joan Hazel Moran

Joan Hazel Moran, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandma and great-grandma, passed away on January 19, 2012, in Portland, Ore.

Hazel was born August 8, 1934, in Butte, Mont., to Edward and Marguerite Sheehan. Hazel attended both Butte High School and Butte Central High, graduating in 1952.

Hazel was a twirler with the Butte High band in her freshman and sophomore years; and also was a twirler at Butte Central as a junior and senior. Hazel was also a twirler for the V.F.W. band in the summer.

She married Phil Moran, of Butte, in 1954, and they raised seven children. Hazel and her family lived in Eugene, Ore., Eureka, Calif., Los Angles, Calif., and in Medford, Ore., for over 20 years. They moved to Tigard, Ore., in 1986. However, all the family enjoyed summer trips back to Butte almost every year.

Hazel was active in supporting her children who attended schools in Medford at Sacred Heart, St. Mary's, Hoover, Hedrick and Medford high schools, as well as Tigard High.

Hazel's first job was with Montana Power in Butte. After many years of raising children, she returned to work at Rogue Valley Medical Center from 1979 to 1986, in the housekeeping department. She enjoyed the many friends she made there working the night shift.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Claire and Margie; and brother, John. Her sister, Colleen McDonald, of Butte, Mont., survives.

In addition to husband, Phil, Hazel is survived by her children, Mike (Julie) Moran, of Medford, Ore.; Marcus (Erin) Moran, of McMinnville, Ore.; Linda (Darrell) Webb, of Portland, Ore.; Pat (Kris) Moran, of Ault, Colo.; Colleen (Paul) Schierholtz, of Sherwood, Ore.; Meg (Scott) Nottingham, of Tigard, Ore.; and Tim (Andrea) Moran, of Portland, Ore.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Shannon (Matt) Daley, Kevin (Sarah) Webb, Sean Moran, Carly Moran, Brian Moran, Jake Moran, Matt Schierholtz, Murphy Moran, Allison Schierholtz, Katelyn Nottingham, Kyle Nottingham, and Sofia Hazel Moran. Additionally, Hazel had three great-grandchildren, Kiernan, Nolan, and Harper.

Hazel loved St. Jude's Children's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to St Jude's would be appreciated.

Hazel will be greatly missed.
