Roberta Ellen Harris

Roberta Ellen Harris passed away May 9, 2012 of Alzheimer's disease and age-related causes. She was 85.

Roberta was born January 9, 1927, in Gold Hill, Ore., to John and Errol Smith. She graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1944 and then attended Southern Oregon College of Education. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray Harris, on September 30, 1947.

During her life she worked as a professional secretary before following her passion for antiques and opening Roberta's Antiques inside of her home in 1967. The business quickly grew and she opened a retail location on Philomath Boulevard in Corvallis, Ore., which she successfully ran until the mid 1980s.

Roberta was an active member of Corvallis's Zonta Club, serving as president in 1976, and of the Creative Collectors Doll Club. She was also very involved with the First United Methodist Church of Albany, Ore., where she often ushered, participated in disciple programs, and was honored as Woman of the Year in 2008.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Robert Harris, of Tigard, Ore., and Russell Harris, and his wife, Jeanette Cunningham, of Corvallis, Ore.; granddaughters, Pamela Bowman, of Tigard, Amy Ludwig, of Bend, Ore., and Rebecca Harris, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; step-granddaughters, Maddy and Allie Cunningham, of Corvallis; great-grandson, Caleb Ludwig; sisters, Jean Dawson, of Angels Camp, Calif., and Carol Lackey, of Phoenix, Ore.; and brother, Allen Smith, of Brookings, Ore.

A memorial service will be held June 2, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Albany with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages people to make a tribute/memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Association of Oregon, 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland, OR 97209.
