Mary Margaret McGuigan
Mary Margaret McGuigan, loving aunt and friend, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, in Medford, Ore.
Mary is survived by her nephews and nieces, Kevin Smith, of California; Samantha Cornelius, of England; Evelyn and Pauline Carruthers, and Kenneth McGuigan, of Scotland; and Michael, Martin, and Jonathan McGuigan, of England.
Mary was born November 7, 1933, in Glasgow, Scotland, and from an early age faced her physical challenges with grace and courage. She cherished her time working at St. Mungo's Academy in Glasgow, and after caring for her parents, the late Philip and Catherine McGuigan, Mary moved to the United States to be near her sister. She embarked on a second career with the Monterey County Sheriff's Department and enjoyed the many friendships she made during her time in the Salinas Valley of California. She retired to Central Point, Ore., once again to be near her sister and brother-in-law, the late Elizabeth and Dale Smith, of Eagle Point, Ore.
The family extends their gratitude and a special thanks to Mary's close friend, Elizabeth Thompson, of Central Point, Ore., the "Lovely Ladies" of the Rogue Valley, and the wonderful staff at Hearthstone, all of whom so lovingly cared for Mary on a daily basis.
Mary charmed everyone she met with her quick wit and Scottish accent. She will be missed by many around the world.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, June 4, 2012, 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Medford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Rogue Valley Asante
