Beverly 'Bev' Frances Ruck
Beverly Frances Ruck was born January 20, 1934, to Frances and Bert Thunem, in Fargo, N.D.. She passed away peacefully May 27, 2012, at her home in Medford, Ore. Her children were with her.
Bev's mother died when she was six days old. She grew up in Bowman, N.D., raised by her father and her maternal grandmother, Emma Brown. Bev was very active in school and was the captain of the tumbling team (now known as gymnastics), and was president of the Senior Class. She confirmed her faith in our Lord, in the Lutheran Church in Bowman.
Bev married James Edward Soderstrom in 1953. They had two children, Leslie Leigh and Mark Edward. James died in an oil well accident in 1957. Bev completed her education at North Dakota State. In 1967, she moved her family to Medford, Ore., and taught Home Economics at North Medford High School until her retirement in 1993.
Bev had an active social life over the years. She rode motorcycles and enjoyed skiing, downhill, cross country, and water. She traveled extensively and especially enjoyed her trips to Hawaii. She caught monster steelhead. She rafted. She was a former member of the Rogue Valley Country Club and made three confirmed holes-in-one (two at RVCC). She formed and hosted a bridge club for 18 years following her retirement.
Bev was preceded in death by her mother in 1934; her father in 1956; her maternal grandmother in 1956; her husband, James, in 1957; and her brother, Keith Thunem, in 1999.
Bev is survived by her daughter, Leslie Leigh Claassen; her son, Mark Edward Soderstrom (Teresa Ruprecht); and her grandchildren, Marie Pascale Soderstom (Andrew Barron), Matthew Aaron Claassen, and Jesse Lee Soderstrom (Jesse Azzopardi); and great-grandchildren, Tristan Jazz Soderstrom and Nathalie Isabella Barron.
