Robert 'Bob' Hubbard

Robert "Bob" Hubbard passed away in his home Saturday, June 16, 2012, in his home of age related causes. Bob was 88 years old. He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Spann, also of Florence; and his son, Bob Hubbard of Index, Wash.; his granddaughter, Lynne Carpenter, of Reno, Nev.; and his great-grandson-to-be, Finn Carpenter (due in August).

Bob was born and raised in Medford, Ore. and was heir to the hardware store Hubbard Bros., established in 1884 by his grandfather. Bob was married to Coralie Joyce Crosby January 24, 1948 and they traveled life's journey together for 50 years until her death in 1998.

Bob was a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps (later the U.S. Air Force) in WWII and flew as a navigator in the South Pacific, primarily in the Philippines and on the flight to Hiroshima and Nagasaki on which the Life Magazine photographers documented the destruction of the nuclear bombs dropped there.

Bob and Coralie moved to Florence in 1978, then traveled extensively to Europe, Mexico, Canada, and Hawaii. They enjoyed their beach house in Florence until her passing. Bob remained in their home for several years then moved to The Shorewood, where he has lived since. In the years since, he has greatly enjoyed his friendships and family, which included all the loving people at Shorewood. He will be greatly missed.

Bob did not wish to have any services. His family asks that you remember and honor him by donating to the charity of your choice or volunteering assistance in your community.

Arrangements are being held through Burns's Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home.
