Andrew R. Green
Andrew R. Green, 64, of Ashland, Ore., entered into glory surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at his home. He was born March 9, 1948 in Glendale, Calif., the only son of Harold A. Green and Harriette Cheatham Green.
His youth was spent primarily in Southern California with the exception of 1 year in England at age 11 when his father was employed by Douglas Aircraft. He graduated from Marina High School, Huntington Beach, Calif., in 1966.
He began his ministry as a young pastor sent out and ordained by Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in 1977. He started his radio career at Country station KSNO, Alturas, CA in 1973.
That opened the door for a job on Christian radio station KDOV, Ashland, Ore., in 1975. Andy developed two radio shows down through the years Rock of Ages on secular classic rock stations and Simple Truth a daily Bible study, airing across the nation on numerous radio outlets. Through radio Andy became acquainted with many Christian musical artists. Through concerts and outreaches a young church was started.
He was the founding Pastor of Ashland Christian Fellowship from 1976 2000. He began two more churches; Ashland Chapel 2001-2007; South Beach Chapel in South Beach, OR from 2007-2009. In 2009 while working in conjunction with Calvary Chapel South Maui, he taught a Men's Bible Study on the beach in Maui. In January 2012, he returned to the Rogue Valley to join the staff of Table Rock Fellowship, Medford, Ore., to teach Wednesday night studies Victory in Jesus. He was an avid tennis player but his love of surfing eclipsed all other sports.
Andy is survived by his wife, Katie; his children, Aaron Green (Jennifer) Beaverton, Ore.; Sarah Schwarz (Eric) Beaverton, Ore.; Jon Green, Beaverton, Ore.; Peter Green, Lakewood, Calif.; stepdaughters Janelle Chapman, Ashland, Ore.; Valerie Nelson (Justin) Honolulu, HI; Abbie Chapman, San Diego, CA; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Butler Bandshell in Lithia Park, Ashland, with Pastor Tom Sabens of Table Rock Fellowship officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Litwiller Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland, Ore.
