Sherrell 'Willie' Lloyd Williamson

Sherrell Willie Lloyd Williamson went home to be with the Lord July 13, 2012. He passed away peacefully after a short battle with lymphoma.

Willie was born March 2, 1928, in Parkdale, Ark., to a family of 11. He had a twin brother, Gerald, who passed away at the age of three. His mother died shortly after delivery of the twins and due to difficult economic times, Willie's uncle and aunt, Dan and Ollie Williamson, adopted him. He was raised in Socorro, N. M. with their family and at the age of 13, left high school to work driving a dump truck so he could help support his family. Two years later he returned to high school, graduated and earned a scholarship in basketball to Boise Junior College (Boise State). Following Junior College he earned a scholarship to the University of Idaho. After college Willie moved to Boise, Idaho, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Wickham, and married her on August 30, 1959. They lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Thousand Oaks, Calif., before settling in Medford, Ore. in 1968.

It was in Medford that Willie started his agency with Farmers Insurance, where he worked for 32 years before retiring to Keizer, Ore. in 2000. He loved playing golf at McNary Estates Golf Course where they lived, and he regularly played with the Duffers, rain or shine. Willie and Carolyn also spent winters at Outdoor Resorts in Cathedral City, Calif. with close friends. Willie was kind to everyone he met and was genuinely interested in others' lives, remembering details and asking about them when meeting up with them again. He was fluent in Spanish from his days in New Mexico and loved every opportunity to speak with anyone who would converse with him, friends and strangers alike.

Willie is survived by his wife; and two of his three children, Sandi (Williamson) Nichols, and Lloyd (Laurel) Williamson; Pam (Williamson) Smith preceded him in death in 1988. He also has five grandchildren, Andreana (Nichols) Fast, Krysta (Nichols) Bossard, Sarah Williamson, Michael Williamson, Jonathan Williamson; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Perl Funeral Home/Siskiyou Memorial Park, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, Ore., Friday, July 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young Life Rogue Valley, 1390 Oleander, Suite B, Medford OR 97504.
